Aurora's courthouse anchors the town square, and inside it two offices split every Hamilton County case. Traffic tickets, misdemeanors, small claims, evictions, and probate go through the clerk magistrate at county court. Felonies, divorces, and larger civil suits go through the clerk of the district court. A name alone works at the counter. Callers should add a year and a case type to speed the lookup, since staff search the register of actions by date as much as by party. The statewide online case search mirrors the Hamilton County court docket for both courts and runs around the clock.

Hamilton JUSTICE Docket Search

JUSTICE is a statewide system, not a separate Hamilton County portal. Its search form lets you filter by party name, County, court type, case type, year, judge, and attorney. You can also sort results. The live terms charge $17 for a one-time name search. That fee buys three calendar days of result access. Some older official pages still show $15. Confirm the live terms before paying. A query returns at most 30 cases. A careful first search beats several broad guesses.

The JUSTICE entry service is the official online route. The official page shows the public entry point. A result can point you to a case summary and ROA. It cannot unseal a sealed case. Some document images may simply be unavailable.

Expect a lag of about 24 hours for a new filing to show up. If your Hamilton docket search comes up empty, try the other court level before calling the clerk.

Court Dockets: What They Show

Nebraska's official chronological case summary is the Register of Actions, or ROA. Many Hamilton residents just call it the court docket. Under the District Court records rule, the ROA lists filings, hearings, orders, judgments, and other case events in order. It is not the full case file. A filing may appear as an ROA line even when no image can be pulled remotely. A downloaded image is not a certified copy.

Read a Hamilton docket from the first entry forward. The newest setting or order is your end point. That history explains why an old hearing still shows after a continuance. It can also reveal a transfer, appeal, judgment, or disposition. That finding may send you to a different court or record.

Hamilton Case Codes and ROAs

Hamilton County carries code 41 in state case-number conventions. A District Court case may begin with D41. A County Court case may begin with C41. The type segment can be CR for criminal, CI for civil, TR for traffic, PR for probate, or SC for small claims. A year and a sequence number finish the ID. Treat these codes as reading aids only. They are not a way to build a number the court never issued.

The prefix matters because two clerks serve Hamilton in one courthouse. A County Court ROA and a District Court ROA may trace connected stages of one matter. Each clerk keeps records only for that court. Copy the number exactly. Ask the clerk when a code is unclear.

ROA
The chronological Register of Actions for a case.
Setting
A scheduled event such as arraignment, motion hearing, trial, or sentencing.
Continuance
An entry moving a setting to a later date while keeping the older event as history.
Disposition
A recorded outcome, including dismissal, plea, judgment, or other resolution.

Hamilton County Courts and Their Dockets

The Hamilton County court docket is not one unified collection. Nebraska District Court holds the higher-level criminal and civil docket. Hamilton County Court holds the limited-jurisdiction docket. That includes traffic and other county work. No separate Hamilton municipal docket or portal is published. City and village ordinance cases usually land in County Court. Watch for a citation that names a different venue.

The Hamilton District Court page and the Hamilton County Court page identify each office. Search JUSTICE when you do not know the court. Then turn to the right clerk for copies or a current case question.

A felony can open with a preliminary entry in County Court and later appear as a trial-level District Court case. Check the prefix and the newest ROA line to trace that move.

Hamilton Traffic Docket Snapshot

Traffic is Hamilton County Court's largest reported category for FY2025. The County Court report counts 1,644 traffic cases out of 2,505 adult and category cases. That figure is a workload category. It is not a city-by-city citation count or a list of tickets. Still, it shows why a Hamilton docket search often needs the County Court filter first. Try that filter before any other court type.

Records for traffic, ordinance, and misdemeanor cases can show a citation, the filing, settings, disposition, costs, and payment history. The court's case record stands apart. It is separate from any state licensing record. Use the citation, case number, calendar, or County Court clerk for the court path. The Hamilton traffic court page walks through that route in more detail.

Court Dates and Settings in Hamilton County

Use the free Multi-Court Case Calendar to search a current or future Hamilton setting by date or last name. Choose County Court or District Court, select Hamilton, choose a search type, then run the search. A last-name query needs at least two characters. A calendar result can identify a caption, case number, time, and setting, but it should be checked against the latest ROA entry.

Hamilton’s practical confirmation chain is latest ROA, calendar result, the right clerk, judge or court coordinator, then the courthouse terminal or posted sheet. No official Hamilton daily docket PDF or standing remote-hearing page was located. A blank calendar screen is not proof that no hearing exists.

Hamilton Calendar and ROAs

A calendar is only a schedule. The Hamilton Register of Actions tells a fuller story. It lists what happened in order: older notices, continuances, motions, orders, and outcomes. Use the calendar to spot the current setting. Use the ROA to trace how the case got there. A continuance never erases the old date. It just adds a later entry, so the newest setting carries more weight than a past one.

Labels on a Hamilton County court docket can read arraignment, pretrial conference, motion hearing, docket call, trial, sentencing, review, default, or dismissal. Each one names the kind of event set, not the result of the case. If a court date was missed or looks unclear, phone the court office. The clerk can identify the court and record, while the court itself controls the calendar.

Calendar caution: A no-result response does not certify that Hamilton County has no hearing. Compare the latest ROA and confirm the current setting with the clerk.

Docket Access Under Nebraska Law

Hamilton County court records fall under Nebraska public-access law. Court rules apply too. Public access does not mean every file or image comes in every format, though. Nebraska Public Records Act provisions cover inspection, copies, response estimates, and what counts as a public record. Court rules spell out the public case information available through JUSTICE, calendars, and courthouse terminals. For certification and many in-person records questions, the clerk is still the office to ask.

When you request a Hamilton County court docket, be specific. A single case works far better than a sweeping demand for everything about a person. Name the court, case number, party, and document. Say whether you want a plain or certified copy. Juvenile, adoption, protected, and sealed records may be withheld or masked. Statutes and court rules control that masking.

Key rules:

Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712 provides the inspection and four-business-day access, estimate, denial, or explanation framework.

Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712.01 addresses public-record scope, including electronic information.

Nebraska Court Rule §6-1523 identifies the District Court ROA, docket, indexes, and case file.

Neb. Rev. Stat. §43-2,108 makes juvenile proceedings and reports generally confidential.

Hamilton Courthouse Terminal Route

Sometimes you need court records without a one-time online name query. The free courthouse terminal is the practical fallback. The Hamilton courthouse sits at 1111 13th Street in Aurora. Come during courthouse hours. Use the public JUSTICE terminal. Write down the entire case number and the court level before you leave the screen. Then take that information to the clerk counter to request the file or a copy. The terminal grants no pass past juvenile, sealed, or other restricted-record rules.

The official County Court page gives the court's contact details and public-access context. It helps you spot the real court path. A search-engine result or a city-office page is not the same thing.

County Court keeps weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call ahead about closures, accommodations, or copy cutoffs. The court publishes no floor plan, parking guide, security procedure, or terminal-location map, so ask the clerk when you arrive.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

Hamilton County splits docket custody by court level. Wendy C. Dethlefs holds one office. She is Hamilton County Clerk of the District Court, and keeps District Court criminal and civil dockets, trial dockets, judgments, and related district files. Carly Noack holds the other. She is Hamilton County Court Clerk, handling County Court misdemeanor, traffic, preliminary-felony, civil-within-limit, small-claims, probate, guardianship, adoption, ordinance, and juvenile dockets. Search only one office and you can miss a case from the other court.

A mailed request to either clerk should state the court, full case number, party names, the document sought, plain or certified status, a return address, contact details, and your payment question. Hamilton County posts no set turnaround promise, no public docket-request email, and no drop-box instruction. A formal court-records request follows the judicial policy set by the State Court Administrator.

Hamilton Historical Docket Books

Older Hamilton County docket research does not have to run through a current JUSTICE search. The State Archives lists Hamilton County records. They include a Default and Judgment Docket volume covering 1887 through 1894. Older formats still matter. Bound docket books, indexes, microfilm, and unconverted paper files can hold details a newer online record simply lacks. Ask the clerk first whether a local original or a copy is on hand.

If the clerk comes up empty, look further. The Nebraska State Archives Hamilton County collection and the state court-records research material are your next step. Give a specific party, period, case type, and any known case number. When nothing turns up online, a reason exists. Timing, retention, sealing, an older format, or a restricted record may explain it. A missing result is not a certificate that no case ever existed.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Hamilton County

Aurora, Hampton, Giltner, Phillips, and Marquette top the list. They are Hamilton County's five largest incorporated places on the state-certified 2020-vintage list. None of them runs its own official municipal docket portal. City and village ordinance cases ordinarily land in Hamilton County Court. The exception is a citation that names another venue. Each city page here gives the local municipal contact, the docket path, and the Aurora clerk fallback.

Hamilton Restricted Docket Results

When a Hamilton County court docket search comes up empty, the reason is usually mundane. New filings take about 24 hours to post. A typo in the name will sink the query. So will a filter set too tight. The same goes for a case filed at the other court level. Some older Hamilton County records were never converted. Confidentiality rules also keep certain matters from public view. The county court also serves as juvenile court. Juvenile records carry statutory limits on who may see them.

Work the basics before giving up. Re-enter the exact name. Drop the extra filter. Check the other court's docket, and if you really just need the next hearing date, read the calendar instead. The clerk can help once you have case details in hand. One limit to know: staff will not issue a no-record-found certificate under the state search policy. Sealed-record access follows its own court process, and it is never a shortcut through public search.

Note: A public search can locate a case. But only the court or clerk can confirm a current setting or issue a certified record.

The building also houses the County Court clerk, so confirm which counter handles a given case before standing in line. No official page publishes a parking map, entry-security procedure, or floor plan, and the county has not posted a holiday-closure list, so calling ahead is the safest way to confirm access before a trip.
